Personally I think this little owl I made for my friend's baby's first birthday might be my favorite! She is just so cute! (The baby, and the owl of course!) |
Before I show you how I made my little owl friend, I want to give credit to where credit is due. I got my idea for this little guy from two fantastic owls tutorials....I have made a few changes, and that is what I am going to show you today!
Snuggly Owl by Ashley Johnston |
My Cotton Creations |
Step 1: I used My Cotton Creations pattern. If you follow her link, she has a PDF file that you can download for free. The pattern is really small, so I took it into my local copy store, and had them blow it up 4 times its original size. The only thing her pattern is missing is the legs. (More on that later!)
Step 2: Cut out your shapes. The four identical shapes on the left side of the picture are the legs. I don't have a pattern for these legs. I like my legs long, so I made the leg section approx. 6" long, with a rounded head. I originally made a three-toed foot with leg but velvet slips around, I found I was more successful if I sewed the toes than cut off the extra material...I have a few pictures later on in the tutorial.
Step 3: Sew on your parts...(okay that sounded a little wierd!)
I've enjoyed your blog. You two are super creative and crafty. I feel like I have good ideas, but I can never "DIY." Haha!
ReplyDeleteI love OWLS too. My daughter's nursery bedding has owls on it and I found a cute owl picture at Target. I had an artist paint some whimsical trees to go along with the owl theme. She didn't paint owls though b/c I wasn't sure how long the owl theme would last, but I knew the trees would match several new beddings in the future.
We would love an owl friend. Her room is pink, green, yellow, aqua and orange.
Here is a link to her nursery: http://www.babyellington.blogspot.com/2011/07/nursery-mural-day-1-pix.html
Gosh, what gorgeous cuties they are:) I think I have no other option but make one myself:) Thanks for the tutorial.
ReplyDeleteI second what deZeal said! I am going to have to make at least one for our house! My daughter just moved up to a full size bed and we have the cutest PB patchwork quilt. She needs some owl friends to match!
ReplyDeleteLove the Owl with the corduroy belly. Would love to make one with all different textures would make a great kid pillow without the button eyes. My daughter-in-law and son love owl find some great owl hot pad might have to make this pillow for them as well.
ReplyDeleteSorry, it is me again:) I didn't pick any owl because I do not think me being outside the US qualify for the giveaway and I understand that completely. If however it is not the case, then I have to say my fave one is the grey one:)
